Urdu University Karachi

The Federal Urdu University of Arts, Sciences & Technology (Urdu: ﻭﻔﺎﻘﻰ ﺍﺮﺪﻭ ﻳﻭﻧﻳﻭﺮﺴﭩﻰ) is a coeducational public university with its main campus located in Gulshan Town, Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. It has two other satellite campuses; Abdul Haq Campus at Baba-e-Urdu Road, Karachi and Islamabad Campus near Zero Point, Islamabad. Approximately 13,500 students are pursuing degrees primarily in technical fields, such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Urdu , Management Science and Economics.

History

Federal Urdu University was established on 13 October 2002 by presidential order, the university is the first university in Pakistan to teach primarily in the Urdu language. It was established by up-grading two Federal Urdu Colleges: Federal Urdu Arts College, Baba-e-Urdu Road, Karachi and Federal Urdu Science College, University Road, Karachi. President Pervez Musharraf was the university's first Chancellor. Currently President Asif Ali Zardari and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaiser are the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor of this university respectively. The Islamabad Campus was established in late 2003.

Baba-e-Urdu Dr. Abdul Haq
Maulvi Abdul Haq (Urdu: مولوی عبد الحق) (1870 – 1961) scholar and linguist, who is also regarded as Baba-e-Urdu (Urdu: بابائے اردو) (Father of Urdu). He was a champion of the Urdu language and the demand for it to be made the national language of Pakistan.

It consists of three campuses:
Abdul Haq Campus at Baba-e-Urdu Road, Karachi. (previously known as Federal Urdu Arts College).
Gulshan Campus at University Road, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi. (previously know as Federal Urdu Science College).
Islamabad Campus, Sector G-7/1, near Zero point, Islamabad.
