Permanent and Semi-permanent Hair Dye

By: Terry Siverson

Hair dying is not a recent inclination but it has been continued from the past. It has been done for centuries by both men and women especially to cover up gray hair but now it is popular with the fashion fanatics. Hair dye is not only used to cover the gray hair but also to give oneself a new look. But at the same time it should be kept in mind that dying is not always safe or damage free procedure as these hair dyes contains several strong chemicals so unless you know exactly how to combine chemicals and treatments and what you are doing it will be wise of you if you better leave the process of dying to a trained professional just to escape any kind of damage.

You should understand the fact whatever product you see in the market either aims to preserve the natural texture and glow of your skin and shine of your hair by protecting it from dirt, dust, ultra-violet rays of the sun, temperature difference and etc all of which more or less have adverse affects on our skin as well as hair while the other kind of products like hair straightener, rollers, hair dye and several cosmetics aims at making us look different either by changing the hair style that we do with straightener or rollers and hiding the gray hair using hair color or even if it is not to hide graying but to have a different look we use hair color and those that are use on our skin also are used either to hide any kind of blemishes to highlight the cheek bones etc. Moreover whatever product we apply on especially that brings changes in our look it is important that we follow the instruction strictly so that we do not be responsible for the plight.

Take the case of the hair dyes that contain strong chemicals should not be used frequently as it can cause hair break. Hair dyes are available as Permanent and Semi-permanent. A permanent dye stays for long on your hair and will not wash out due to several washing while the Semi-permanent dyes are not so strong and will diminish with few wash because they do not contain strong chemicals and these chemicals do not enter your hair. They are available in as a liquid, gel or foam and can generally be applied directly to the hair without any mixing. Although the effects of dying hair with this dye are equal when it comes to color, but care should be taken when you are out that you do not forget to take your umbrella with you. In case if it is a rainy season or weather and it starts raining then you can face an embarrassing situation of getting your dye washed away with rain water rolling down your cheek over your shoulder and showing your gray hair again. This is one downside of semi-permanent hair dye but there is one positive side is that it causes less damage to the hair.

Permanent hair dye on the other hand usually consist of a package containing two bottles-one contains hydrogen peroxide solution and the other contains the dye dissolve in ammonia and  a small bottle or sachet of conditioning cream for use after the dying treatment. When the contents of the two bottles are mixed well they act as a permanent dye that when applied on hair causes the hair to swell making the particles to open and separate and enabling the hair absorb the hair dye solution and change the color of the hair. And the process takes half an hour to 45 minutes which is then followed by rinsing and conditioning. So, whatever you use it is important that you follow the instructions that come with the product.
