Top 5 Dry Skin Care

By: Rodrigo Fields

The damaging of the epidermis or the outermost layer of the skin causes the skin to dry. The skin feels rough to the touch, tight, and even itchy. Although it is not a disease or a serious condition, it is best to follow these five dry skin care tips to ensure a healthy and glowing skin:

1.      Keep Shower Water Lukewarm, Not Ho

Taking long hot baths can aggravate dry skin especially during winter months. Instead keep your shower short and lukewarm. After showering, gently pat your skin dry and apply moisturizer while your skin is still damp. This helps in sealing moisture, leaving your skin feeling soft and smooth. This dry skin care tip will actually save you money for moisturizer will spread further if the skin is still damp.

2. Moisturize After Showers

Constant moisturizing is the key to a soft and supple skin. Antibacterial soap can be harsh on the skin so frequent moisturizing to lock in moisture will definitely go along way. Dry skin care only means one thing – moisturizing.

3.      Exfoliate on a regular basis

Moisturizer is more effective on properly exfoliated skin. In this regard, use a scrub in the shower and exfoliate facial skin using mild scrub specifically made for the face. However, exfoliating on regular basis does not mean daily. Dry skin care requires you to exfoliate once a week or every other week.

4.      Stay hydrated but don’t expect too much

People believe that drinking more water will hydrate the skin. Although water is good for the body don’t go overboard. This is a myth and you just simply can’t moisturize skin from the inside out. Recent study shows that dehydration does affect skin, but a hydrated person is not going to see major effects by drinking even more water. In conclusion, water is good but don't expect water alone to save you totally from dry skin.

5.      Don't forget to moisturize the lips

Licking your lips does not moisturize them; instead it even dries them out. Lips retain lesser moisture than other parts of the body, so they dry out more quickly. A simple lip balm definitely helps. Remember that the lips also need dry skin care for they are equally important as other body parts.
